Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror

Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror ★★★★½

As close to perfect a documentary as I've ever seen. It hits every point I hoped they'd make -- and more. Very timely, but also historically cognizant in a way which really shows the breadth and depth of the topic.

Get Out maybe gets a lot more attention than other films than I might've wanted. For instance, Sugar Hill gets dismissed pretty quickly because of its negative aspects, while not ever really mentioning the positives.

However, seeing Ken Foree and Keith David sitting in a theater and talking the genre is something I could've watched for hours on its own. The pairing of actors, directors, and writers really elevates Horror Noire beyond just another doc that's all talking heads and film clips into an actual discussion of the subject at hand, and I really and truly applaud the makers of the movie into something special.
