Matt Triponey’s review published on Letterboxd:
I liked this, but I feel like the people who venerate Brian De Palma now would consider him a major cornball if he was having his heyday right now. They'd tweet clips and videos of his movies alongside comments like "This is an actual scene from Carlito's Way," they'd condescend to his fans, they'd consider his critical acclaim a symptom of the death of film criticism, etc. I don't have a point here. It's just something that struck me. I'm on Twitter too much. Anyway, I liked Carlito's Way! I just don't have interesting thoughts about it. Wild how intense the whole subway sequence is even though the whole thing is a foregone conclusion. Stylish, distinct, we'd be in a pretty good place if hit movies looked like this again.
