• Sound of Metal

    Sound of Metal

The Good: Riz Ahmed and Olivia Cooke are great actors as always. Their talent is undeniable.

The time Riz spends in the deaf school is good and can be quite touching.

The Bad: The whole movie feels like a lot of potential that never really delivers. I wanted to see more of the band before he lost his hearing. I also thought they kind of forgot about the love interest plot for too long.

The Bottom Line: It's not trying to copy "Whiplash", but you should nevertheless just watch Whiplash instead.

  • Wind River

    Wind River

Wind River portrays a Cold World~

The Good: Everything about this film works to tell a dreary, weathered story of tragedy and justice. While Olson holds her own, it's Renner who stuns with a stoic and largely silent performance.

This film is a great example of how engrossing a film can be without the frills of big Hollywood action pieces. This one is not to be missed by fans of the slow burning thriller.

The Bad: The scene showing the…

  • The Silencing

    The Silencing

The Good: This is a moody atmosphere, well captured in the heart of a vast forrest. Nicolaj does a great job convincing you he's a broken man that doesn't want to kill any more.

It also doesn't take long to get going. Before you know it, there's a killer stalking teenage girls and using the sanctuary land to do it.

The lead is very resourceful without having every answer. He proves to be a worthy adversary of the killer without…

  • The Running Man

    The Running Man

I'm typically the biggest Arnold fan in any room, but I can't defend this one.

The Good: Arnold has a few one liners that make you grin.

The Bad: The story is uninteresting, the action scenes are lame and Arnold feels out of place.

The Bottom Line: When I show my kids my favorite Arnold movies, I'm pretending this one doesn't exist. Anyone who wants to see the good version of this, see Total Recall. That movie does the dystopian future correctly!

  • Tenet

You've already read this review, and you didn't like it...

The Good: Pattinson is very charming and has his moments. The film feels epic in scope.

The Bad: I know John David Washington is a good actor, I just wish he would've showed it in this movie. His performance is bland and utterly forgettable.

This is the first movie in English I ever HAD to watch with subtitles. There's no escaping the fact that this is a failure of the…

  • Hud

The Good: Paul Newman generates 3.5 stars all on his own in this one. Patricia Neal is good in it as well.

The Bad: This is one somber, unpleasant downer of a film. I genuinely have no desire to watch it again.

The Bottom Line: You have my permission to skip this "classic". Unless of course you enjoy torturing yourself. My advice is you do yourself a very big favor and watch Cool Hand Luke again instead..

  • 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi

The Good: This is what happens when a Michael Bay movie has SUBSTANCE. This is truly a guys-guy movie with overflowing testosterone and bravado. It's also a touching look at a few guys who just want to get home to their family.

The Bad: It's not short if you're not enjoying it.

The Bottom line: No matter what you believe, these guys were in a bad situation. I'm not sure if it's basic for me to say that this movie makes me feel incredibly patriotic, but it does..

  • Shutter Island

    Shutter Island

~I get now why he doesn't like the water...~

The Good: This is an incredible noir-esque thriller without even one dull moment. The acting and stunning island visuals are candy for the eyes and ears. You may guess the ending in advance, but it does not keep you from enjoying the yarn one bit.

The Bad: It doesn't really FEEL like a Scorsese movie. Otherwise, there is nothing wrong with it.

The Bottom Line: It's a heartbreakingly epic mystery that will continue to reward viewers even on repeat viewings.

  • Django Unchained

    Django Unchained

The good: Likely the most entertaining of all Tarantino movies...and that's saying something!

The entire film is Oscar Caliber and very well could have won Best Picture.

The Bad: Not for the easily offended.

The Bottom Line: Come for the bullets...stay for the white-cake!!

  • Snowden

    ~Oh Brother, Big Brother~

The Good: I was entertained by the performances and writing in this political thriller. The pace and the subject matter never really give you a chance to be bored.

The Bad: While I was never bored...I was never really WOWED either. The main thing that goes wrong with Snowden, is that it never quite reaches a boil.

The Bottom Line: Whether you think Snowden is a Patriot or a traitor, his story makes for an entertaining movie.

  • Igby Goes Down

    Igby Goes Down

    ~Igby grows up!~

The Good: This unapologetic coming of age story is immaculately crafted and executed. Igby says and does everything we never had the guts to as a 17 year old.

Great performances by all, however, Kieran and Goldblum shine the brightest. The dialog is first rate, and the story is endlessly entertaining and introspective. Also, the soundtrack kicks major ass.

The Bad: Nothing that I would classify as bad. It may be too heavy for some I suppose.…

  • Texas Chainsaw 3D

    Texas Chainsaw 3D

The Good: While most of the movie is nothing new or amazing, I found the end to be quite entertaining. It definitely does not finish the way you think it will, which is refreshing.

The Bad: It can be quite cheesy, but I expected that.

The Bottom Line: A fun watch for Halloween time, but nothing to write home about.
