The crime-thriller can be a cluttered one which can make it hard for contenders to stand out. Based on a Swedish novel ‘Three Seconds,’ The Informer was a crime-thriller that stood out because of its grim and gritty look, aping films from the ‘70s and ‘80s, and mixing personal and professional dilemmas. It was also a film that had a broad story involving Polish gangsters, a cop-killing investigation, corruption within the FBI, and family drama – it was so big that it would have been better serviced as a miniseries.
