A slow and day-dreamy movie that feels as lost as its characters, in the best possible way. Lost in their marriages, lost in the city, the movie wonderfully captures the meandering feeling of drifting through life that plagues the characters. The acting is solid and the script is well written, especially in sympathizing us to the main characters. The cinematography is muted, and I think it could have been pushed one step further, especially with a backdrop as cinematic as Tokyo. Overall, this film is very subdued. This aligns with the themes, critiquing the excess of modern life, but it can sometimes feel too slow and adrift. It's nonetheless a well-made movie, and it's unique flow leaves a lasting impression.
