"There’s evil in the wood"
Robert Egger's directorial debut The VVitch is a thought provoking period piece rooted in historical folklore presented through a dark, gloomy and atmospheric horror film that surpasses the usual flaws of the genre. Packed with religious symbolism, rising tension, tenebrous imagery and a carefully crafted, true-to-history setting, The VVitch is rich with atmosphere, character and beautiful cinematography, along with a provocative tale of religious fanaticism, temptations, and a self fulfilling prophecy.
The VVitch is a grim, harrowing retelling of classic folk-tales presented through a thought provoking lense with expert filmmaking and a rich atmosphere, and an all around fantastic film.
