What starts out as a strong supernatural thriller devolves into a lifetime movie crime drama with little tension, but a solid twist.
This one really missed out on being quite fun. What started potentially promising enough as a somewhat decent supernatural-based slasher instead turns into a rather bland and utterly pedestrian thriller that is rather uninteresting for the most part. The whole film is reliant on setting up the final twist which is completely impossible to actually play out in this manner since it undermines the entire film to the point that it questions every possible and potential outcome that could've occurred through that setup and brings the entire film down because all the possible supernatural antics that were featured here tend to drastically lower this one. The bland and predictable outcomes that are normally featured here in the attempt to get…
Not the best film Cuba has ever been in but it had a good premise, but I just found it boring, so boring, it takes a lot for me to like a movie fully nowadays, it sucks.
Imagine Final Destination for adults with only a sprinkle of the supernatural stuff...and five times more awful.

For a thriller/haunting type movie this one turned out to be really boring, slow and the tension was far from tense.
CAPSULE REVIEW
I was surprised of how boring "Summoned" turned out to be, even as a thriller with supernatural elements. B-movies like this tend to pander to the audience by at least offering a modicum of generic thrills and trustworthy and expected scares. "Summoned" plays out like a lifetime movie with a last act that is spectacularly short and underwhelmingly unspectacular.
You know those movies where an accused murder is possibly wrongly convicted and executed, and then the people who were responsible for convicting him begin dying mysteriously? SUMMONED is one of those movies.
The only real reason to watch SUMMONED is to see a mustachioed Cuba Gooding Jr. Sadly, he is only in the movie for about 10 minutes. Poor, neglected Cuba...
At any rate, SUMMONED is neither clever, nor suspenseful; even though it clearly thinks that it is both of these things. The revelations in the final act are all too obvious (I figured things out at the beginning of the second act), and the dialog and acting are lifeless and dull.
1 star for Cuba's mustache, 1/2 a star for trying to pull off a sex scene in which both actors are clearly still wearing their underwear/clothes.
Skip this one, unless you like punishment.
