What's the opposite of erasure... awareness?
Adam Wingard is scene-kid awareness.
Narratively this isn't all that interesting, but formally it's very exciting, especially for a microbudget film. Wingard's editing and sound design really make this work; it's very watchable and occasionally really visually interesting, especially when you consider what he's working with. And as someone that is about the same age as him and seems to have lived a similarly "scene" youth, I recognize so much in these early movies of his. Down to the kinds of houses and spaces everyone is in, this feels so familiar and in some way I think is tapping into a nostalgia of mine.
This is tough to find but worth checking out if you're interested in this sort of thing. You can see the talent of a young promising artist here and why this might work to propel him further into his career.
