I don’t think I’ll ever be able to express how important Alma is to me.
There have been many characters that have almost been her, but none of them have ever come close. She embodies everything I am, everything I’ve tried to be, and everything I’ve ever wanted to be. I’ve thought myself to be Alma before, but I’ve never been brave enough. She’s weak, but is stronger than anyone she’s around. She’s kind, but could break every bone in every body with her words. And yet, she’s in love.
She does something I’ve never been able to do. She does what I’ve always dreamed of doing and have constantly beat myself up for not being able to. Alma is…
What an accomplishment. One of my faves of the year.
Please see this projected on film. It's worth it.
PTA's cinematography should have received way more recognition this award's season.
After Phantom Thread ended, two older women walk out of the theater, laugh, and say, “You do what you have to do to make your relationship work. It was perfect.”
In other words, it’ll be hard for any film this year to beat this. Paul Thomas Anderson is in love with filmmaking and its so obvious in the way Phantom Thread is presented. Hilarious, tantalizing, enchanting, and beautiful. Vicky Krieps steals the show.
absolutely unmatched lighting, absolutely unmatched score. jonny greenwood the motherfucking king. cannot believe how delicate and pleasant this movie feels for what it is. it’s like the great british bake off but for assholes. i love it. i’m also so lonely right now that at the asparagus dinner fight i found myself thinking “god i would kill to be in a weird and bitter fight with a girlfriend right now” which is healthy!
phantom thread posits an impressively fresh take on the older, eccentric male genius with a younger female muse trope, but that’s to be expected from THE paul thomas anderson.
it’s a slow-burning fuse with a quietly explosive ending sequence. it’s the kinkiest film to not actually feature any sex scenes. it’s fifty shades of grey for the arthouse crowd... in a good way.
one of the purest joys in this world is insisting that a bunch of new friends who’ve never seen this watch it and then observing them go from shocked realization —> pensive contemplation —> hesitant acceptance —> effusive approval —> fist-pumping euphoria during the climactic omelette scene. this was my 4th time doing this and it never gets old! in fact, it’s the only foreseeable reason to keep making new friends!!!
I shit you not I was so shook by this movie I stood on the other platform at the station and am currently on the wrong train home
watch this only if you're in the mood to dwelve into something that burns slow but bright, to appreciate it fully.
"There is an air of death in this house and I do not like the way it smells."
Pretty cool relationship, nothing remotely problematic here.
Obviously all the technical aspects, score, and performances are marvelous here. If this truly is the capstone to DDL's career than it is a fine end for the greatest actor of his generation. Bravo!
“Ohh ho ho ho, here we go!” - me when I saw that beautiful camera work, setting, and filming technique. I’m hard as a rock right now. I love cinema. You know it when you see it baby. So watch it, drink it in! they don’t grow these on trees. Those car shots!
That was without a doubt the most tense ~omelette? bite in recorded history. Just pure cat vs mouse. Tom vs Jerry. You hit me with a pan, I drop a piano on you. My eyes wouldn’t blink. Felt like I was strapped into the Clockwork Orange viewing chair.
God this thing is beautiful. You’re a bonafied scrub if you say it’s boring. You just got caught. You’re…
ahora entiendo por que Daniel Day Lewis tomo ese retiro, realmente alcanzo su zenit.
As of now, probably my favorite from PTA. From the incredible and I mean INCREDIBLE score, to the beautiful cinematography, everything is captured so well. This film almost feels like your staring at a very fine piece of fabric. Of course Daniel Day-Lewis is amazing but let me remind you once again how great the score is. Loved this movie so much. I’m gonna go act very posh from now on cause why not.
A movie to end the career of a masterful movie maker. PTA has broken my heart with a public career termination. I have only one question sir… when are you planning the return? *crosses fingers, toes, arms*
I watched this movie with a friend who had visceral disgust for how much she disliked this family triangle lol. My sentiments are purely the opposite. I’ll admit I now understand her perspective, and its always so humbling for someone to counter my *sigh* knee jerk assertions…
I cannot help but adore this film. This is not a movie of complex characters but a movie of complicated relationships. There is a triangle, it is not a love triangle but it falls somewhere around…
This movie is maybe the most gorgeous thing I have ever looked at?? I fell in love with every single shot. It’s so delicate and beautiful and yet the story is so intense. Wow.
