I completely understand what Lee was going for with this, but intentions didn’t work out. This was poorly written. Characters make illogical decisions over and over again. The dialogue is repetitive and lacking substance most of the time. The drama, is over played, and almost torturous. If Lee wanted to honor the Black Americans who fought in Vietnam and everywhere else, I think he could have done it better.
Delroy Lindo works with what he’s given, and he does the best he can, but his character is dumber than Cersei in Game of Thrones. I expected more.
I have written about how character deaths can really drive a story forward, but the way Lee uses them really didn’t do this. The deaths feel forgotten, not story-defining.
For these reasons, and more of which I am too exhausted by the length of this film to dive into, I am very disappointed by Lee’s latest venture.
