after disney announced the lightyear film yesterday i thought i’d finally watch this and it’s SUCH A FEEL GOOD FILM
As a kid, I would eat this up. It’s nothing but space action with no underlying messages nor heartwarming sequences. Mira Nova (Lady Buzz) is awesome and some of the childlike humor was hit and miss but unfortunately as a whole, this film is boring. Nothing to gain but I did enjoy some of nostalgia that I was feeling.
Animation Domination (2020) - Movie #9
if u don’t know what Animation domination is, I would recommend visiting the “Lists” part of my letterboxd profile to see the list I’ve created for it, on that list is an explanation of the supposed event or u can click right here !
Yup. This was pretty fun. It’s not very memorable or astonishing in any way really but it’s a lot of fun and was definitely nostalgic for me. I remember watching this A LOT on DVD when I was young and it was nice to transport myself into being young again !
The year is 2005, I’m under a warm blanket on the couch. It’s 11:27 AM. My mom is making me blue box mac after I begged her to make me some. I run over to the stack of VHS’ and grab my favorite: Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins. I put in the tape. The strange sound I always hear echoes outside, which I would later find out is just a common type of bird, a specific type, but would later forget. I eat blue box mac while I watch this tape before House of Mouse comes on.
Life is good.
The year is 2020, I’m under a warm blanket on the couch. It’s 12:37 AM. My parents are…
Hahahaha god fucking damn it!!! I haven’t seen this in 15 years and it’s still sooo fucking good!!! Maybe I’m nostalgia blind or something cuz I loved every minute of this!!! I never got to finish the show, but it’s all up on YouTube so I’m excited to see the whole thing again and finish it!!!
This movie is like Star Wars meets Star Trek, had an affair with the goofy tv show and raped every single Childers tv cliché’s 😂😂 and it absolutely fantastic!!!!
I totally can see a lot of people finding this boring or too over the top or super kid cheesy, but I love it and it’s one of those things that I’ve been obsessed with…
I sometimes forget this exist and that I used to watch it on VHS all the time and I'm disappointed in myself
Cinema peaked with Tad Stone's 2000 Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins starring Patrick Warburton as Little Green Men.
My favorite childhood movie. Watched this on vhs all the time. A classic plot that I based my imaginary friend on. Cool blue guy
People have told me my reviews have been gettin too political, so I had to switch it up. I was obsessed with this movie/show as a kid and it really stood the test of time. Or maybe I just havent evolved at all and im still in the mindset of a child.
The aesthetic is perfect and Newman makes a great Zurg. What more could I ask for?
I only ever watched this on a small combination tube CRTV/VCR that was set up in a camper trailer parked outside my grandparents' house. I can practically SMELL that hot camper now, those repeat summer evening watches (along with Pooh's Grand Adventure and several Land Before Time sequels.) Ah, memories...
A Goddamn Classic. Disney's strongest direct-to-video release. I'd give it five stars, but I've only seen the version with Tim Allen. I long await the day I see the original cut with Patrick Warburton as the titular Buzz Lightyear.
A very entertaining and highly energetic opening action scene opens up into a whole lot of filler exposition and character development of people standing around talking. There is another explosive action scene at the climax but its not quite enough to save this film from feeling a lot longer than only 1 hour. Still though, there were some moments of genuinely fun visual comedy throughout and a strong retro sci-fi campy aesthetic so I can’t hate this too much. And it was nice to see Buzz Lightyear kick some ass.
