The French do romance like no-one else. After, also known as The Night Parade portrays an evening following a chance encounter between Julie and Guillaume. He's keen to spend time with her,she resists his charms mostly, hinting that she is not available, but slowly succumbs. They eventually reveal parts of themselves to each other over the evening,Guillaume being more open,Julie more circumspect. After is one of those 'small' films which slowly unfolds allowing you to invest some of yourself in their story. You will them on to an outcome based on your own morals and judgements and they leave you dangling....
Where to watch
I love films like this. It follows the chance meeting of Julie and Guillaume and the evening they spend together. It's very much along the lines of Before Sunrise and Weekend and that kind of thing. That's my kind of subgenre. The two leads have lovely chemistry and the film has a lovely, languid pace which suited me. The cinematography is nice too, showing off the moody streets of Paris. I had a pleasant time with this film.
Before Sunrise speaking french and with sligtly older actors. Not bad, but we've seen it all before.
