The Lady Eve ★★★★½

Laugh by laugh, Sturges funniest film, as ingenious constructed as the farces but pitched towards Barbara Stanwyck and Henry Fonda delivery vas it is his one movie that really makes use of star power to drive it (and Stanwyck is as usual as great as anyone who ever step in front of a camera). It is also a sleight of hand movie with all the mirrors and playacting serving to advance its romanticism. Any movie that can take turns at thowing Eugene Pallete and Charles Coburn at their best at the audience is well served as often the case Sturges just can thow the perfect throwaway detail to enrichen the comic material.
