Anna Kendrick is cute and watchable as always, but even she can't save this from just being a mediocre Christmas movie. I liked where the story ended up, too bad it's letdown by a bland script and the fact they didn't use Bill Hader to the fullest potential.
This was nice. A very short and enjoyable indie seeing a grandma and her granddaughter trying to get money needed for an abortion. You can tell this was crafted around Lily Tomlin and her character. She shared nice chemistry with a wide eyed Julia Garner. Nothing out of the ordinary happens, but these two characters still develop over the course of a day. Some pretty great cameos as well.
"You promised me the drive. Not the win."
God damn. This was my most anticipated film of 2019 and it delivered on all fronts and then some. Christian Bale has always been my favourite actor and I'm not kidding you one bit in saying that this has become my favourite performance and perhaps movie with him. James Mangold has crafted such a well made movie that feels big, epic and yet, it didn't lose any intimacy or heart.
