never anything interesting to say
After over a decade of films, the wild ferociousness of Mifune yields to the passage of time. An old lion mopes around, swatting at cubs at play. It feels natural for someone who spent a career playing such character to slow down as Mifune did, but moreso I feel like Kurosawa’s Samurai-muse finally understands the futility in always fighting.
The best sword is left in its sheath.
Also there is an action scene where Mifune rescues four samurai and simultaneously takes on like a dozen enemies AT LEAST and the whole thing is done in three cuts. Just quality action-craftsmanship.
