Promising Young Woman

Promising Young Woman ★★★★½

Who needs brains? They never did a girl any good.

Where do I start? When "Boys" by Charli XCX rolls out, I knew that I'm gonna enjoy this movie. I was and am right.

There are few movies about women this year, including this one. I love how they give a nod to the infamous Brock Turner case by the title. Promising Young Women stands out by using revenge thriller genre to tell a narrative about a sexual assault victim. I would say this is one of the most approachable and enjoyable way to make people want to watch it. This movie takes me anywhere I didn't expected, there's times where I felt like I knew exactly where the story was going and it would go in different direction. That felt surprisingly good.

Carey Mulligan's multi-layered performance, which shows her as a lone warrior taking on rape culture almost singlehandedly. It made even more so by she can be fearless and empowered in one scene, then vulnerable and devastated in another scene. She is the successor of Amy Dunne *squealing*.

P.S: I do love the ending.
