    love the worldbuilding/sense of place and the train car sets. Tilda Swinton steals the show as a ridiculous snooty antagonist. was nice to see John Hurt again. feels pretty resonant in a time when inequality and global warming are increasingly the threat to global civilization.

    it's basic, and the violence is kind of lame and the acting is generally not very good. but i'm giving it extra points for being extremely economical. it does an extremely good job of building tension the entire movie. so if i view it from that lens it's kind of like a nice little low-budget film that's like half art film/half exploitation. wish the acting wasn't so corny though.

    i feel sorry for anyone who still thinks 25+ years later that this is a bad movie, or a "so bad it's good" movie - it's very, very far from either. maybe it's time to stop defining yourself by the critical consensus of puritanical empty-headed 90's male critics who mostly just suck at the teat of Hollywood. the fact that this movie isn't viewed as just as sharp a satire as Robocop or Starship Troopers, when it's actually even better…
