sometime over the past two years, i’ve started trying to peel oranges all in one piece, and i didn’t exactly remember what prompted it. was a bit startling when that scene arrived in leave no trace, where tom & her dad sit quietly, both focused on their oranges, and then compare the lengths of their peels. i must’ve held onto that moment for some reason... maybe wanting to treat each moment with that much care & attention. some scenes from films stick with you in an obvious way, and you consciously try to emulate their energy at times. but how sweet is when you hold onto something without knowing. like starting to incorporate a word into your vocabulary that one of your close friends use. or waking up with a song in your head. these involuntary movements and ideas we pick up & make our own.
