JD’s review published on Letterboxd:
The film follows Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford), an archelogy professor and adventurer, as he desperately tries to reach Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis.
From the iconic set pieces to the characters, this film is always a blast to watch. The story is compelling from the brilliant opening to the famous final shot. Characters are interesting with unique personalities that set them out from each other. Indy's dynamic with Marion (Karen Allen) is charming with lots of humour and a highlight of the film.
Harrison Ford nails the gruff but extremely likeable personality of Indiana and totally make the role his own. Karen Allen is also on great form as his love interest Marion. Denholm Elliot, Paul Freeman, Ronald Lacey, John Rhys-Davies, Wolf Kahler and Alfred Molina provide fantastic support.
Visually this film is stunning and epic. Douglas Slocombe's cinematography captures the scale of the adventures phenomenally and the set-pieces are still a lot of fun to watch. John Williams' constantly rising and magnificent score is one of his finest and is iconic.
Final thought: Still holds up as one of the best adventure films that has ever been made.
