    Five Element Ninjas

    ★★

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

When asked why he sacrificed himself to kill the big bad at the end of the film, Tian Hao, the last remaining member of his martial arts school, responds thusly: "I don't know either." I think that line pretty much sums up this movie in a nutshell.

It's your standard revenge plot; a group of ninjas kills the members of Tian Hao's martial art school on the orders of one of the school's rivals, and Tian Hao must learn the…

That said, this is a very solid film, and there's a reason it's widely considered to be one of the best in the series.

The illustrious Ishiro Honda is back in the saddle with this…

    Son of Godzilla

    ★★★

This movie gets a lot of hate, and to be honest, after watching it I can see why. It does have some redeeming qualities, but they are overshadowed by a lot of goofiness and poor writing.

The sets are actually pretty good, and there is some very good miniature work here as well. The score, by Masaru Sato, is one of the more interesting ones in the franchise. We also get some pretty nice dust-ups between Godzilla and some giant…
