    Lullaby of Death

Masumura Yasuzo’s final theatrically released film. It is a decent end cap to a career that started with amazing promise with Kisses in 1957.

While not primarily a horror director, Masumura did traffic in the horrific. Very enjoyable Hitchcock spy/suspense film. Has shades of the later North by Northwest (1958). Look forward to watching again. One of the better British sound films he made.

    The Long Good Friday

This film took multiple viewings, but am glad I persisted. The music, slow build up, erratic violence, and of course Bob Hoskins powerful performance make this an absolutely fabulous journey. It may not be a perfect picture, but every scene has something compelling, unique, and connected with progressing the picture.

    Violent and powerful filmmaking.
