  • Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time

Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time

This feels like a parody of End of Evangelion. All the emotional journeys of the characters and the existentialist themes of the original series and film are lost in this pointless remake of a film.

Anno can't decide if he wants to go in a completely new direction with the story, or stick to the conclusions of End of Evangelion, so he tries to do both at the same time, only to make the new content seem muddled in its…

  • Les Vampires

    Les Vampires

I like the stunts and the character Irma Vep, but I am disappointed that it wasn't much of a mystery or have much to do with secret societies. Each episode is just The Vampires stealing from someone, the journalist and his friends foiling them, the police show up, the criminals escape, and sometimes there is a kidnapping or a fake out death. Also, a lot for people introduce themselves with business cards.

The pacing is very slow for a silent…

    The Astrologer

The fictional movie inside 'The Astrologer' grosses $144 million in 1976, making it nearly three times as financially successfull as 'Rocky', starring Sylvester Stallone, the number one film of the year ($55,900,000).

The plot of the film involves an astrologer and carnie getting involved with diamond smuggling in Zimbabwe, only to then escape prison and become a multi-millionaire philanthropist. He also uses his astrology powers to influence the film industry, as well as give advice to the U.S. Navy.

    La Roue

The 2019 restoration that restores the film to its 4-part, 7 hour original is now streaming on Mubi Australia with English subtitles.

I have to say, that this is one of the most excessively long films I have seen. It isn't helped by the simple story that is very much of its time, especially in the treatment of the leading lady. It is revolutionary for the time, especially in the way that scenes are non-linear at times, and memories are…

    Apocalypse Now

The new final cut restoration looks amazing. But the best version is still the original theatrical cut. I have seen this movie at least 12 times, so my ranking is:

    1. Theaterical cut
    2. Final Cut
    3. Redux
    4. The workprint

The creator has uploaded the feature film version to their youtube for free

It's very worth checking out. I love the 8-bit video game aathethic, and when it gets weird, it is never too dark. Why does the dialogue sound like Russian text-to-speech? I don't know.

Charming, funny, and a bit philosophical at times. I haven't seen anything quite like it.

A sequel, "Eyeballs in the Darkness" is being produced right now. You can start watching that in parts on their channel, starting at episode 80, but I think the longer format suits Tux and Fanny better than 90 second chunks at a time.

  • Zack Snyder's Justice League

    Zack Snyder's Justice League

Why put the epilogue in if they are already taking the DCEU in another direction?

This movie would have been better at 3 hours, but Steppenwolf reminds me of Thanos too much, only worse, and the Mother Boxes are just another name for Infinity Gems.

The extra violence also makes me feel uncomfortable. Why should we root for the Justice League when Wonder Woman smashes a guy against a wall and kills him in front of school kids, or when…
