Old ★★

For sometimes better, but mostly for worse, this definitely feels like a movie M. Night Shymalan had full control over. Bold, for sure, but also unintentionally funny, stilted, and a complete mess most of the time, with incredibly awkward writing and directing that makes even the good actors here seem bad at times. There’s so many inconsistencies with the script, plot holes, unnecessary ideas that go nowhere in an already repetitive movie, and some truly insane decisions that absolutely do not work despite how daring they are. There is some unique camera work and framing that was good for the most part though, the casting was great, I liked the singular setting, some of the imagery and reveals were handed well, and I think the overall concept for the story was pretty interesting, but so much here just didn’t work for me at all. Maybe next time M. Night…
