Great update to the Kuleshov effect. The illusion broke for me several times but there's a few moments where I couldn't help but smile, and that reaction is entirely due to the three films that color in the backstory behind these two characters. They aren't even looking at each other in the source material, and yet some of their gazes are as if they couldn't have been directed at anyone else. All created through the power of editing.
