Chopping Mall

Chopping Mall ★★★

The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs - Season 2 - Episode 1 - Film 1

"Thank you. Have a nice day."

Job Bob Briggs and The Last Drive-In are back, babay!!! The first movie up for season 2 is Chopping Mall. So here I am. His special guest is the star of the film, Kelli Maroney and she's obviously drunk but so is Joe Bob and so am I. Perfect Last Drive-In material.

A mall becomes the testing ground for new night time robot security guards call The Protectors. They are programmed to protect the mall against vandalism with an array of supposedly non-lethal weapons to subdue criminals and punks. On the first night of their implementation into service, lightning hits their hub and they become lethal. It's the same night that a group of teens decides to have a party inside a store after hours. This sets up a battle of life or death for the teens as they try to survive until the morning when the robots shutdown and the armored gates reopen.

This movie is so awesomely 80's. We got boom boxes, big hair, all kinds of cheesy clichés, teen angst and the spirit of rebellion against authority, breasts, the gum chewing jock, extremely 80's robots, and cigarette vending machines that sell Marlboros for a buck and a quarter. The acting is as corny as expected from mid-range budget Barbara Crampton era 80's horror. The soundtrack was pretty good. The robots have terrible aim with their pastel colored lasers and the teens have terrible aim with their guns to the point of hilarity. I shouldn't have slept on this one for so long. Check it out.
