Surprisingly similar to Mac and Me given both are from 1988 with around the same production value and feature an approx. 10-year-old kid keeping a strange life-form secret from his mom and other adults for fear of what might happen if it’s discovered. Of course, Cameron’s ‘creature’ is the polar opposite of Mac in temperament, perhaps his evil twin. Should have been sponsored by Burger King in a competition of fast-food creature films. Missed opportunity there.

    This film certainly does…

I have to assume McDonalds knew that in 2022, someone (me) would be watching Mac and Me on their phone while in the drive through line (ordering breakfast). Their investment is this wonderfully awful film is still paying off. I still wouldn’t drink regular coke though, despite it apparently being life saving for aliens, that stuff will kill humans.

Long live practical effects, even the ugliest kind. I’m not sure this was ever on-the-rails but wow does it ever find a new meaning for off-the-rails after the midway point. And had to go for the non MST3K version first to get the full intended effect.

Ok, so this film is divisive, and I fully get why.
Warner Brothers asks Lana Wachowski to make another Matrix movie, well they better be careful what they ask for. What a goofy and wildy unpredictable yet totally obvious piece of cinema. This thing was like if someone compiled a bunch of Blu-ray making-of material and made it into a movie. Sounds awful on first glance but why someone hadn’t thought of that until now I have no idea. Some…

“George Clooney! You been reading about all that, you been seein that?”

    “George Clooney?”

“Yeah, He’s up there, with the Congress, he’s trying to get everybody to go over there and uh, solve that thing.”

Still a great clip, never gets old
    “It’s not that busy.”

This film, I don’t know, great first half, awful second half. It truly amazes me how bad it gets when Tye Sheridan becomes the sole focus of the movie. He is either woefully miscast…
