    anthony hopkins always understands the assignment. 

    this film was an extremely challenging watch for me. anyone who’s lost as one one to dementia or alzheimer’s can understand just how excruciating it is to watch your loved one slowly waste away to nothingness, deteriorating until their conscious experience is nothing more than a blank slate, a dripping faucet that teases your heart as it decays until finally it ceases.

    excellent film. challenges the widely accepted idea that hearing loss is a handicap in a very personal and nuanced way. 

    ruben is a perfectly flawed protagonist. this is both the result of good writing with clear character motivation and a good actor that can wholly embody the role at hand. this film has both of those things.
