Decoupage’s review published on Letterboxd:
One of Ozu's most criticized films, made during the death of his father. The first and last reels are missing.
This is Ozu so of course it's bad in a much different way than other films are bad. Most bad films are bad and then they have good moments here or there. A Mother Should Be Loved has bad moments here and there but always comes back to that slow Ozu burn.
