    Bottle Rocket

Bottle Rocket has Anderson’s usual dry, melancholic tone, and you can see the makings of the his staple visual style that he’ll develop over the years. But in this one, nothing feels honed quite yet. Especially the screenwriting skills. I lacked a connection to the characters and the comedy never won me over.

All that being said, it’s still a very cute and charming first feature from Mr Anderson that definitely showed promise.

This completes my full Wes Anderson ranking list!

  • Nomadland

It’s simply exquisite. Zhao’s camera hovers around Fern as if pulled in by the gravitational force that is Frances McDormand.

Everyone has a reason they’re here and all of them are grieving: grieving the loss of a job, grieving the loss of their parents, grieving the eventual loss of their own life, or in Fern’s case, grieving the loss of her husband and the life they shared together. In a way, she’s stuck here, only because she’s not ready to stop grieving and let go of the memories of her Bo. “And that’s okay.”

the moment the mom kicks the housekeeper down the stairs is the best “and I oop-“ moment in film this year

    Alien (1979)? I don’t know a better film.

Alien (the titular role)? I don’t know a scarier extra-terrestrial.

Ripley (that Sigourney lady)? I don’t know a badder bitch.
