D.A.’s review published on Letterboxd:
Holy fuck. I loved and hated everything about this film, and I mean that entirely as a compliment. The fact that this film could have such a polarizing effect on me that will undoubtedly linger with me for the remainder of the week (month? YEAR?) is in and of itself a testament to what Shults has crafted. While I somehow couldn’t shake the feeling this felt like Crash (2004) ((which I fucking despise)) for the A24 generation, Waves worked for me, even if it is a bit uneven and apprehensively preachy. (Is this why it reminded me of Crash? I promise Waves is better. Really.)
P.S. Holy fuck Trent Reznor and Atticus Rose went the fuck off.
P.P.S. I would’ve probably enjoyed this a bit more if Shults hadn’t left the camera on a fucking oscillating fan.
