For my money this is the best Pixar movie. It’s such a bold move to make a film that tackles themes this lofty such as corporatism and climate change, let alone one with little to no dialogue for much of the run time, and market it towards children. But when you have a really talented group of writers and animators working together, and a very adorable robot to star in the film, it can work. It does work, and it works so well that it’s one of my favorite animated movies and a genuinely wonderful piece of science fiction in its own right.
There’s nothing about this film that falls short in my eyes. There’s so much great comedy, a really relevant and timely message about the dangers of corporatism and the harm we do to our planet, the romantic aspect is incredibly heartwarming, it’s beautifully animated and all around a great time.
