Bumping this up to 4.5 stars. What with it being the #1 rated thing on this app, I have to say I was slightly underwhelmed the first time I saw it, and I had had the twist / reveal ruined for me too, so that didn’t hit as hard.
But it’s technically excellent, and of course is thematically rich (no pun intended). Probably one of the best edited films I’ve ever seen, with immaculate framing, set design, direction, music and performances (the script being the obvious highlight).
The syncopating and balancing of the tension and humour was perfect too.
I’ve got friends who don’t watch foreign films who have loved this. Not sure my hype level for it is on the same level as everyone else’s but it’s slick as fuck.
