Rejuvenated my appreciation for chess! This is a stylish, wholesome and yet sometimes visceral portrayal of a champion who started with all but nothing and ended with vindication. Anya Taylor-Joy is addictive to watch.
Visceral retelling of Dickens' classic, which gives itself enough time to offer its many messages. At times torturous in its darkness, but it never fails to intrigue. Guy Pearce plays an admirable Scrooge, and supporting acts from Andy Serkis, Stephen Graham and particularly Vinette Robinson helped to portray an outlook on the woes of capitalism and the evil it can conjure.
Extra kudos for the use of Suo Gan, one of the most poignant Welsh hymns.
