aliyah’s review published on Letterboxd:
after a rewatch, i’ll give my final rating.
this is a film that so many of us have been anticipating. i know i couldn’t wait to see this for sooo many reasons. but something that has been upsetting to see while i waited for my date to come was the constant praise for robert pattinson and the dismissal of john david washington. i’ve seen this tons on film twitter and in little bits on here. and while i don’t have my final reviews for this i know that i was in love with washington and his character from the start. i love the way he delivers lines, the way he said all the dry humor bits felt so natural to the character it made me so happy. THE FIGHT SCENES. god i loved him in those. (shoutout to the choreographer) this was also the case with blackkklansman. so many people praised adam driver while completely ignoring washington. and it was so annoying to me.
i think we all know why these white men get praised over washington. and that is not to dismiss the talents of those men. i’m so happy to see the way pattinson’s career has grown. but when the lead is overlooked for ignorant reasons it upsets me.
i truly believe washington is a wonderful leading man. and i cannot wait to watch his career grow. i adore you my 5’9 king.
AND THANK YOU FOR 200 FOLLOWERS IT REALLY IS SO COOL HSAJKWJSBSKA
