    The Last Duel

The Last Duel. Ridley Scott’s newest film which stars the likes of Jodie Comer, Adam Driver, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck (co written by the last two as well). It also flopped at the box office. Unfortunately for this film, it suffered from poor marketing while also competing with some blockbuster giants such as Dune and No Time to Die. I almost missed out on it myself as I caught the second to last showing of it at my theater.…

    When Marnie Was There

    Talk about an under-appreciated gem!

When Marnie Was There is one of the most touching films I’ve seen in a while. It wields atmosphere and narrative themes with an aged mastery. I can’t emphasize enough just how well this film creates a chilling blend of isolation, connection, love, and sadness. It’s so many different things, yet all these polar opposite emotions engage in a dance with one another, ending in a tear jerking experience. Because I did find myself close…

    Christmas 2021: Day 8

It might lack sturdy story structure needed to be truly great, but it manages to convey humanity prevailing so well that it’s easy to overlook any minor flaws. It’s a simple film about the tragedies of war and those who suffer fighting others battles. Despite the somber undertone of what cushions this event, it’s still a heartwarming story for the holidays. I’d never heard of it before now and I’m surprised it doesn’t make its way onto more Christmas film lists.

    Christmas 2021: Day 7

It’s a cute idea that grows stronger as it moves along, but the uninspired execution makes this blend in among the Christmas crowd.

    Diary of a Wimpy Kid

There's nothing outright awful here, nor anything particularly noteworthy. The latest adaptation of a Dairy of a Wimpy Kid story is a safe and easy watch that kids will likely get some enjoyment out of. It's filled with the familiar struggles of exaggerated middle school movie tropes and hurtles. While it does do a solid job showing how middle school often forces kids to strip themselves of their personalty, it never ventures far enough down that road to make any bold or helpful statements.

Dairy of a Wimpy Kid is a fine movie. I think young viewers will have a fun time with it.

    2021 Releases Ranked

Well mark me down as disappointed. As an avid lover of animation, I was excited for this after hearing the near universally positive responses. A quirky and chaotic animated film with a heart of gold? Yes please!

The Mitchell’s Vs. The Machines failed to impressive on all fronts. The comedy is unbearably dated and in your face. While there are some moments that I laughed out loud, most made me feel like I was watching some out…
