I really was not expecting a documentary about a group of friends whose passion is skateboarding to hit me so damn hard in the feels, but this might just be one of the very best films 2018 has to offer and from a small town kid with no experience in film in his early 20s no less.

This is far less about skateboarding as it is about escapism. To get away from all the problems of day to day life. About forgetting about all your mistakes that have led you to this point in life. About finding a way to release all that stress and anxiety and to give yourself the power to move forward (here symbolised through the vehicle of some wood, grip tape, trucks, bearings and wheels) and to do better each day and to be a good person and grow and evolve even with all the shit you've had to deal with growing up or what good or oftentimes bad influences nurtured you into who you are. About realizing you can escape the trappings of your past and what made you, you can be anything you want to be despite what kind of environment you're stuck in right now.

One of the very best of 2018 watch on Hulu as soon as possible if you haven't already.
