Nomadland

Nomadland

offensive projection of dignity onto poor people as if they don’t already have it, claiming poverty is universally unbearable and/or shameful. exactly what i anticipated in that every scene is a greeting card line about how home is inside your heart or something. the only way it claims any emotional resonance is through twinkly dinkly sad piano playing over scenes and stories that are not sad, or are sad like instagram captions can be sad. also it’s boring....? that is a classic problem that movies have. i did not hate her performance though— she’s tasked with creating a human person from nothing and does it sometimes... cool!
