a movie set in france without any french people?
is this the perfect film?
thinking about how much better this movie would be with a different main character-
since the riot grrrl movement is pretty infamous for its lack of intersectionality/transphobia/ racism, i think it could have been interesting to see the movie’s lead being one of the woc cast members or trans girl. following their experience with misogyny, which differs greatly than the more privileged way in which white women experience misogyny.
unfortunately, despite some attempt to address racism/lgbt+ identities i couldn’t help…
i have such a complicated relationship with this film.
on one hand, it somehow incorporates everything that makes lgbt+ films exploitative and problematic:
- an older gay peruses a relationship a baby gay knowing that they’re underage (FIFTEEN in this case)
- the age-old cliché of a bisexual woman cheating on her female partner with a man
- extended graphic lesbian sex scenes which are extraordinary unrealistic and cater largely to the male gaze (notice that all the people commenting…
