I’ve seen this a few times before I had letterboxd. This would be my eighth time watching Hereditary. I first saw this amazing movie back with my friends in June 2018. The beginning gave everyone creepy vibes and from that one scene, everyone gasped in theaters. No one made a sound or a word till it was over. Even when it was over, we just sat for a little bit before anyone said anything or moved. Ari Aster is already one…

    Woman in the Dunes

    ★★★★★

Woman in the Dunes executed everything flawlessly. The complex character dynamic, incredible dialogue. The black & white cinematography and score adds on to the uncomfortable claustrophobic atmosphere of this hellish hole. We feel the sand's presence around us. It feels as if you’re in the dunes with them, nonstop agony. The sand is one giant metaphor for our existence. We can’t decide how we want to live our lives.

Despite loving Thomasin McKenzie and Anya Taylor-Joy, the screenplay wasn’t enough to advance their performances from taking it to the next level. It’s mostly Anya dancing, drinking, walking around. Thomasin freaking out every few minutes by ghosts. I haven’t seen Repulsion but Last Night in Soho felt like a modern Repulsion remake just by knowing its concept. The final cut came out as a rough draft with beautiful cinematography and score playing in the backyard to disguise the layered mess. Wright tends to struggle with the third act of his movies but all three acts came out unappealing and underwhelming.

Villeneuve is the most consistent director I’ve seen so far. A rare director to make many mesmerizing movies. Dune Part One is easily Villeneuve’s most cinematic film yet. Letting Denis faithfully adapted Dune from the book to the big screen. A mesmerizing viewing experience in the IMAX theater for 2 and a half hours. Never seen a more realistic looking sci-fi film. The action set pieces, production design, makeup and special effects are top notch in their departments. The Green…
