It feels like Spike Lee sort of stripped his style down and gave it a slight makeover. An upgrade. He manages to sneak in a couple of his trademarks in it so as to lend it his familiarity, having acquired the screenplay from lesser known writers.
Based on 'some fo real shit', the film tells this unconventional narrative with the midas touch. It ends without any real sign or feeling of resolution which echoes that of the modern day sufferings in America.
