Perhaps the most sophisticated and artistic film in existence that can get away with having fart jokes, The Lighthouse also happens to be one of the most original, atmospheric, compelling, and darkly but unexpextedly humorous horror films of recent times. At its core, the film depicts a slowly-escalating psychological war between two dangerously-different kinds of crazy- Robert Pattinson's sneaky, "ticking time bomb" kind of crazy, and Willem Dafoe's shameless, "religious nutcase" kind of crazy, convincingly carried-across through their excellent, career-defining performances. If you're in the mood for a moody slow-burning chiller with some laughs to catch you offguard (but not enough to spoil the scares), then you owe it to yourself to see this one. Easiest way I can describe it is being The Shining, Eraserhead, The Witch, Spongebob Squarepants (and no I'm not really being sarcastic about that one), and Wake in Fright all rolled into one. Great movie.
