felicia 🕯’s review published on Letterboxd:
nocturnal animals weaves between two narratives, and as the stories progress, jake gyllenhaal's narrative becomes arguably the most engaging one. i couldn't help but think that the film would have been sufficient by just focusing on his book. of course, this having jake in it along with a kidnapping storyline made me inevitably think of prisoners, which is leagues ahead, especially in terms of writing. however, nocturnal animals still manages to be captivating for most of its runtime and succeeds at instilling this feeling of utter hopelessness in you by the end. also, i would be remiss if i didn't mention jake's absolutely incredible performance here. another day, another jake gyllenhaal oscar snub. truly devastating.
