Have you ever suddenly felt ‘hey I really must watch Rosemary’s Baby tonight’? Ugh I love this movie so much.
Great showcase for actors to flex their skills but thematically a bit repetitive. It made use of the pandemic limitations (single location, one actor, limited setups) but as a whole it feels like an extended, blunt Black Mirror episode. All of the actors are amazing and they’re given enough material to really act, but the story do not reward their feat. Regardless of the themes/story, I’m most mesmerized with Uzo Aduba and Constance Wu’s performances. Must be an actor’s dream to be able to go vulnerable like that.
At least 50 Shades had a fully drawn out scene discussing consent. This one is heavy on assault and stockholm syndrome.
The only redeeming point is that they nailed (pun unintentionally intended) the sex scenes, which are way better than 50S. There’s a hot sex montage but was sadly ruined by the ugly soundtrack. This movie used out-of-place pop songs for scene transitions more than Star Wars used wipes. There’s also four shopping montages but zero plot.
I am weak for musicals so this is a very very enjoyable movie for me. Everything is top of the class, the actors, music, direction, choreography. Hahah i cried twice, it is so so good, all the emotions hit like crazy. The staging during When the Sun Goes Down is unreal man. And the whole Paciencia y Fe broke meee. Might go watch it again if i have the chance.
