  • Ponyo

    Ponyo

    ★★★½

On 2nd watch, Ponyo is pretty much the best you can get making a movie strictly for kids, unfortunately the ceiling for that isn’t very high

  • Wild at Heart

    Wild at Heart

    ★★★½

Classic weirdo Lynch with a Rom-Com tinge mixed with Jim Jarmusch without the interesting dialogue.

  • Jaws

    Jaws

    ★★★½

First watch of Jaws being in 35mm was a little bit cooler than the movie itself I’ll admit but hey the shark looked pretty real

  • Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone

Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone

    ★★★½

This movie is pretty much all set ups and few pay offs so it really comes down to how the next 3 films differ from the original anime. The changes weren’t bad but they’re so brief that I don’t know how well they’ll work. The score was actually a lot better even though I love the original score and the animation touch ups were nice I guess. It’s Evangelion

  • The Given Word

    The Given Word

    ★★★½

Solid enough, there’s some great symbolism scattered throughout the film and I think by the end of its runtime the movie for the most part hits on its messages about religion. The presentation and pretty much every character aren’t very memorable but it’s got some good commentary on the holes and flaws in Catholicism and I can dig that

  • Pather Panchali

    Pather Panchali

    ★★★½

Solid setup for the next film but not much more than that. I wish that the rest of the film was as good as the last 30 minutes which for sure has some emotional weight and a nice payoff but it’s for the most part just a pretty solid slice of life movie. Pather Panchali just doesn’t really do much besides develop its characters. I thought the mother was interesting and showed a lot of the struggles of parenthood and…

  • Iron Man 3

    Iron Man 3

    ★★★½

Tony Stark is a great hero in this movie, flawed but willing to grow. Which I think adds a lot in between the action scenes to make this a solid watch. Probably my fav Marvel movie so far

  • The Avengers

    The Avengers

    ★★★½

There a scene in this where it’s just one shot and it’s going all over the city showing what each Avenger is doing at the moment and it’s just like the coolest shit ever. Like yea a lot of this is dumb but it’s just so fun

  • Black Girl

    Black Girl

    ★★★½

Very simplistic and blunt storytelling but effective messages

  • Black Widow

    Black Widow

    ★★★½

Aspect ratio changes in a Marvel movie?

  • Sunset Boulevard

    Sunset Boulevard

    ★★★½

Not a lot to say about this, the entire film was just consistently solid, nothing crazy but nothing all too bad either, not even ok just good. I liked the direction and I think the story moved quite flawlessly in terms of pacing, all the characters were pretty good as well. There’s nothing too distinct about this movie it’s just that everything is done at a pretty high level just not going above an beyond. I will say, I thought the climax was rather disappointing and felt a little premature I guess? Pretty cool movie though

  • Iron Man

    Iron Man

    ★★★½

Robert Downey Jr. does some heavyyyyy lifting as pretty much everything else about this movie is as generic as you can get but Tony Stark is a really fun character that made a lot of these scenes a blast. Even though the action is pretty small scale and minimal the writing for Iron Man is really what makes a lot of the scenes great.
