Talking fish from the outset threw me off, don't think all of Villeneuve's weird touches are necessarily perfect in execution but the overall product is an ambitious and compelling effort. Delighted to see Marie-Josée Croze in another leading role, she excels here and is easily the highlight of the film.
What an absolute blast. Loved the fusion of Asian and Asian American cultures, the vibrant fun of the varied action sequences, and the immense heart to what is essentially the tale of a broken family finding ways to repair itself. Probably the most use of flashbacks in any MCU film and I thought they worked a treat. Humour mostly worked really well, with a certain someone making a very welcome return. Visual effects bit hit and miss in…
For me, Clint's best film since Letters from Iwo Jima. He gives a terrific performance, layered with heart and warmth, his direction is unflashy but consistent and there's some beautifully observed chilled out moments, some of the supporting acting is spotty but dare I say it, in a kind of endearing way, and also the whole feel of it is quite wholesome. I really liked it, it does waver a bit when it gets too into plot-driven territory, but when we're just shooting the breeze with Mike, the film soars.
