okay i didn't remember this movie being THIS good but as soon as "no one" by aly & aj started playing in the initial sequence i just knew i was in it for a great ride.

there are some great ideas here but those are mostly severely underdeveloped to the point where it only feels rushed to include these deep topics to try and start a conversation within the movie's narrative. i think depictions of abuse should be treated more carefully in horror movies and this one never quite achieves that, which is a shame because the atmosphere, the tone, the creepy dark setting and the acting from most of the main cast were all really…

i really liked the concept and i loved some of the shorts in this so i had a great time. my rating probably does not reflect that but i had to balance it out the shorts i digged with the ones i hated so there's that!

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

i got so MAD when paige died and when they shot mari ugh :( i'm glad the dumb crew all died tbh =^.^= i also think it's really refreshing how the movie changes directions over its two halves and how they focus first on the girls and then on the parents getting their revenge. it felt so right somehow!

  • Dune

overall it honestly feels like a trailer for what is still to come and not having read anything off the source material previously made the experience much more confusing but it was fun, especially because i wasn't expecting anything lol

  • Martyrs

waited until the end of the credits to see if i had a wrong copy or something.

it seems like they just threw anything they could to fit in the "story" (or whatever that was) and then quickly moved on to torture more women again to not waste any more time. i don't have any issues with torture porn/exploitation films, just really wish i didn't sit through this just watching endless and pointless torture scenes that culminated into a stupid payoff that honestly added up to nothing and just made the whole experience worse. this is not even disturbing, this is just infuriating and it sucks.

yay because it's not every time we get good (or almost good) queer representation in horror films. this was refreshing for the genre and its tropes. also because some of the killings were brutal and i loved it.

nay because a few things bothered me in the final act. i understand the low budget issues and the corny dialogues and situations, but still! also we really needed a real couple in this movie. why are all the gays so horny and desperate tbh!!!

do not make the same mistake i made of watching this movie late at night with the lights off. or do it tbh and i guarantee you're in it for a creepy as fuck ride that will make your whole body chill.

some good ideas that ultimately don't land. jennifer jason leigh is really cute here though and the kitchen scene where she is being taunted by the creepy stalker with the simplest things is honestly horrifying.

seriously, it just never gets old. a personal comfort movie of mine.
