Hong Kong film director Ringo Lam just passed away at 63. He was one of the main directors along with John Woo and Tsui Hark who sucked me into Hong films in the 1990's. His films were tough, gritty, violent and very masculine. For a person just discovering this film industry they were a refreshing smack in the face. Like a few other Hong Kong directors he was pulled into Hollywood for the money and the fear of the Mainland takeover - but those films are not representative of his work in Hong Kong. RIP.
