I like Temple of Doom but it was always a mixed bag for me with all of its problematic stereotypes and poor Kate Capshaw reduced to hysterical screaming.

I'm not sure what changed on this viewing but there is so much to love that it overcomes it's shortcomings.

This movie is bonkers but it never feels disjointed, more like a thrilling minecart ride. It's just insane escalation after insane escalation and it works. I also never fully appreciated the cinematography…

Only in the 80s could you create something so deeply homoerotic without any intention or awareness.

Personally I loved the cheese, indulgences and vibrant color grading that reminded me of some of Mann's Miami Vice era.

Biggest gripe with the movie is the vague nature of the "enemy" and the lack of ensuing fallout. Wouldn't the climatic dogfight be an international incident that is basically a declaration of war?

For me one of Cage's greatest performance.

A film that is incredibly moving in it's quiet stillness. Probably the hardest I've cried at a movie in over a decade.

An absolutely exhausting ordeal. Like listening to a hyperactive child hopped up on candy tell a story that jumps from one fantastical, but nonsensical hijink to another. I absolutely could not believe my eyes that this was only 90 minutes long, it felt like an eternity.

Oh man I feel like it's been ages since a great courtroom drama. This was so refreshingly straight forward with a solid split of dedicating time to the setup and our investment in Frank and The Mangrove and then ramping up the drama for the courtroom procedures.

Really surprised by the lukewarm reception from many, this was probably my favorite film of 2020 so far. Beautiful and brooding with enough twists to genuinely shock. Garcia gives a wonderfully subdued performance and the cinematography promises great things to come from this filmmakers debut.
