My Neighbor Totoro is probably my favorite Miyazaki film. It's not a complex story, nor is it his best or most detailed animation, but that doesn't matter ... this film is pure magic. I'm not referring to Totoro, Catbus or the soot sprites ... the magic is in the way it recreates the nostalgic atmosphere of childhood summers, those long and beautiful days of wonder when the world was all ours.

This followup to 2016's "Don't Breathe" brings back Stephen Lang as the blind raspy-voiced anti-hero but with first time director Rodo Sayagues at the helm. It's still an OK horror-thriller but much of the magic is gone ... no surprise since that's a common curse of so many sequels. Delightfully offbeat horror comedy from writer, director and lead actor Jim Cummings. It's been compared to the Coen Brothers' "Fargo," and while it does have quite a few similarities in terms of its dark humor, cold midwestern environment and small-town cops, I'm also feeling some "Twin Peaks" here as well. In each case, the comparisons are intended to be complimentary... "The Wolf of Snow Hollow" feels fresh, not derivative, and it's one of those films that's all the more enjoyable…

Weird movie. Takes place near the sea, but there wasn't a single seal.

There's not much new to be said about one of the best sci-fi action adventure flicks of all time. Quippy dialog and hammy acting rooted in the classic mid-20th century sci-fi serials, a fast-moving story, rousing music and spectacular special effects all combine in a nearly flawless way for the cinematic experience of a lifetime. The film industry has changed quite a bit since then in terms of visual technique and digital effects, but the basic storytelling really doesn't get…
