Hard to imagine a movie with a title premise I would be more pre-disposed to love unconditionally, but this is also unsurprisingly great. The chain is established early as an image metaphor that ends up being extended to every realm of state and socioeconomic power, from marriage to military-industrial, until there is no such thing as freedom, and the social engineer, of all things is the man who ends up stealing to survive. Moralizing as anything, but it’s a message movie with a message that still needs hearing. Has to be the most essential and formative “prison is the world” movie I’ve seen.
